Advertising & Commercial Relationships

How MaishaThabiti separates advertising, sponsorship, affiliate and partnership relationships from factual and editorial judgement.

MaishaThabiti may support its work through advertising, sponsorship, partnerships, referrals, data services or other commercial arrangements. Commercial relationships should be identifiable and should not determine factual conclusions.

Separation from editorial judgement

Payment should not buy a favourable factual conclusion, suppress a material limitation or convert promotional claims into independent evidence. Structured knowledge and editorial content should follow the same evidence standards whether or not a provider has a commercial relationship with MaishaThabiti.

Advertising and sponsored placement

Advertisements, sponsored content, promoted listings or other paid placements should be distinguishable from ordinary editorial and knowledge content. Users should not have to infer that a placement is commercial.

Affiliate and referral relationships

If MaishaThabiti can receive compensation when a user follows a link, makes an enquiry, signs up or purchases a product or service, that relationship should be disclosed where it could reasonably affect how the user interprets the link, recommendation or placement.

Provider information and corrections

Providers may be invited to supply or correct factual information about their own services. Their participation does not give them ownership of independent comparisons, evidence assessment or conclusions about alternatives.

Rankings and recommendations

Commercial status should not be a hidden ranking factor in an independent recommendation. If a ranking is itself sponsored or commercially ordered, that fact should be clear to the user rather than presented as an evidence-based editorial ranking.

Research, data and institutional partnerships

MaishaThabiti may work with organisations on research, data, distribution or product partnerships. A partnership may define the scope of a project, but it should not require the platform to falsify evidence or conceal a material conflict. Project-specific disclosure may be appropriate where the relationship affects interpretation.

Commercial sustainability and user trust

A sustainable business model is necessary for long-term research and maintenance. The commercial objective is therefore to fund the knowledge system without making users unable to distinguish what is known, what is recommended and what has been paid for.
